Temple History
शिवालिक की पहाड़ी पर श्री महाकालेश्वर शिव मंदिर है। मान्यता है कि इस मंदिर का इतिहास महाभारत काल से जुड़ा है। महाभारत युद्ध के बाद पांडवों ने यहां तपस्या की थी।
मान्यता है कि मंदिर परिसर में मौजूद बरगद के पेड़ से ही बर्बरीक ने महाभारत का युद्ध देखा था।
जब घटोत्कच और अहिलावती का बेटा बर्बरीक महाभारत युद्ध में भाग लेने चला था तो श्रीकृष्ण ने यहां पर बर्बरीक की परीक्षा ली थी और दान में बर्बरीक का सिर मांग लिया था। जब बर्बरीक ने युद्ध देखने की इच्छा जाहिर की थी तब श्री कृष्ण ने उनके सिर को एक पेड़ पर रख दिया था। मान्यता है कि महाकालेश्वर मंदिर के पास आज भी वहीं बरगद का पेड़ खड़ा है।
माना जाता है कि श्री महाकालेश्वर शिव मंदिर महाभारत काल का है। गांव के पूर्वज सदियों से इस मंदिर मे माथा टेकते आ रहे हैं। गांव के लोगों ने चाहा कि इस शिवलिंग का यहां से निकालकर गांव में स्थापित करेंगे। शिवलिंग को निकालने का काम शुरू किया गया था। कई फुट गहरी खुदाई के बाद भी शिवलिंग का तल नहीं मिला। खुदाई के दौरान शिवलिंग के चारों ओर गणेश जी नंदी सहित कई मूर्तियां मिली थी। एक सांप निकला और शिवलिंग से लिपट गया था। उसके बाद ग्रामीणों ने शिवलिंग को यहां से ले जाने की बजाय मंदिर के जीर्णोद्धार का निर्णय लिया था। 2010 में दोबारा से मंदिर भवन का निर्माण शुरू किया गया था।
Shri Mahakaleshwar Shiva Temple is situated on the hill of Shivalik.
It is believed that the history of this temple dates back to the Mahabharata period.
After the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas did penance here.
It is believed that Barbarik saw the war of Mahabharata from the banyan tree present in the temple premises.
When Ghatotkacha and Ahilavati's son Barbarik went to participate in the Mahabharata war, Shri Krishna took the test of Barbarik here and asked for Barbarika's head in donation.
When Barbarika expressed his desire to see the war, Shri Krishna placed his head on a tree.
It is believed that even today a banyan tree is standing near the Mahakaleshwar temple.
The Shri Mahakaleshwar Shiva Temple is believed to belong to the Mahabharata period.
The ancestors of the village have been bowing their heads in this temple for centuries.
The people of the village wished that this Shivling would be removed from here and installed in the village.
The work of removing the Shivling was started. Even after digging several feet deep, the bottom of the Shivling was not found. During the excavation, many idols including Ganesh ji Nandi were found around the Shivling.
A snake came out and was wrapped around the Shivling. After that the villagers decided to renovate the temple instead of taking the Shivling from here. The construction of the temple building was started again in 2010.
